Crossover Start
Welcome to The Morning Skate.
My name is Anthony Day, but you can call me Dayzer. If I remember correctly, Dayzer originally started as Daisy. But you know how fast nicknames can change. Daisy evolved into Dayzer and to this day I am convinced some parents of my friends wouldn’t be able to tell you my first name.
Anyways, this is a big day. Since I left college a handful of years ago, I had been working in the financial services industry while coaching at my former high school. Today, things changed.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
Hockey has been a part of my life since I can remember. I was so lucky to grow up in a hockey family from a hockey town, Buffalo, NY. From early morning skates to overnight bus trips across the country to winning a Division 1 National Championship; hockey has been the vehicle through which I’ve travelled the country, grown up, met my best of friends and developed a passion that will never fade.
My vision for the Morning Skate is simple. I want the Morning Skate to be the hub for everything hockey in my life. And what does that look like?
First, The Morning Skate is presented by the Summer Stock Hockey Company. Summer Stock is a subscription pro-shop service that promises to make sure our players our ready to go before they hit the ice. Whether you’re looking for just one box or a season pass, check out our website to find out a bit more. The Morning Skate will feature updates from Summer Stock, including promotions for our readers.
Second, The Morning Skate will take on a real life personality. Beginning in September, The Morning Skate will be a monthly skill development camp for hockey players in Buffalo, NY. Each week our players will have three on-ice sessions as well as a personalized video breakdown at the end of each week. Maybe we can get some of my former teammates to chime in from the prospective of a current professional.
Throughout my career, the time I spent in small groups during the off-season or even during the season, proved to be some of the most valuable time on ice. And some of the most rewarding. The players willing to get up and skate at 6AM before heading to school… those are the players that will separate from the rest.
We will feature different video breakdowns and other on-ice lessons from our morning skates here on the blog.
Why skate in the morning? Because everyone else is sleeping.
Lastly, The Morning Skate wants to hear from you! We hope this turns into a community of players, parents and fans of the best game in the world. Who knows where this goes, but one thing is certain; we want to engage with our community.
We all know how small the hockey world is; if you could share this with just one friend or teammate, we will be forever grateful. We promise to provide you all with quality content that will appeal to your hockey senses.
Oh yeah, we wouldn’t be real hockey players unless we talked a little golf. Maybe some on the course interviews with some current pro guys. We can find out what they focus on in the summer and to see how their wedge game has improved. We’ll see.
Heres to clean ice and flat passes - talk soon.
